What to bring
Please bring 4 pins with you to attach your race number to the front of your vest/t-shirt. While we have water stations at approx every 3km and offer a bottle of water at the finish, if the forecast is indicating the weather will be hot and you tend to dehydrate easily please bring a bottle with you to keep your fluids up as you run.
If you take any medication or use an inhaler please ensure you have that with you.
The route
The course is a multi-terrain route involving just one lap . A water station is provided at approx each 3km. The course consists of both track and road sections. The roads will remain open for the duration of the event please exercise caution when approaching a road crossing and listen to the marshals instructions. Some of the tracks pass through private property only permissible for the event so please stay on the race path.
Toilets
These are located at the event site next to the pavilion building.
Pre-race warm up
Dexter from DexterPT will lead us in a warm up, this will start at approx 09:40 am on the event field. After which runners are to make their way to the start line on Leaden Hill.
Entries on the day
We have very limited spaces that will be available on a first come first served basis. At an increased charge of £20 to enter and we are unable to guarantee a chip time. We can only accept cash.
Chip timing
On collection of your race number you will find a timing chip attached to it, do not remove the timing chip and please where our number. While every attempt is made to give runners a chip time we cannot guarantee this especially if the chip has been attached incorrectly.
Distance change
If for some reason you decide to cut your 10km run short or increase your 5km run you must let the chip timer know when you cross the finish line.
Baggage
We will be providing a manned baggage store. To leave your baggage please use your luggage tag from your race number and write your mobile number on the tag and attach it to your belongings. To retrieve your bag you will need to show your race number to the person supervising the bag store.
Please note all valuables are left at your own risk.
2km Fun Runners
The 2km fun run takes part on the event site and consists of 3 laps of a marked route. The 2km fun run will have two starts at 10:30am and 11:30am. You can choose which one you want to do on the day. Runners can run with or without an adult. Please feel free to bring your children to take part, we still have spaces available to purchase on the day for £5. There will be children's entertainment in the form of bouncy castles and other inflatable fun.
MP3 players
Parts of the route include road crossings and as the roads will remain open we strongly advise you NOT to wear headsets during the race for the safety of yourself and others. It is important you are able to hear any instructions given to you by our marshals.
Dogs
Unfortunately, while we love dogs and have them ourselves, this event does not allow dogs in the race. We recommend you leave your dogs at home as they are not permitted on the event ground and dogs should never be left in a hot car !!
Photography and filming
We may take photographs and video at our event; a condition of entry to Run Orwell is that you have given permission for us to use all footage in our marketing campaigns.
In addition to our own photographs, we have a professional photographer on the day, Paul Williams of Inkwell Photographic who will be taking photos of runners. These photos will be uploaded to our website as soon after the run as possible.
Prize-giving
We aim to award prizes at approximately 11am & 11:30am. Timing is subject to receiving the results from the chip timing company.
Results
The chip timing company hope to bring a screen and keypad system with them which allows you to punch in your race number and receive your finish time. Official results will be posted online as soon after the event as possible.
https://www.runorwell.com/results-photos
Please note this can take some time because of internet connections and sorting out any queries. We do send out an email after the run announcing the winners and these are also posted on social media.
We will be awarding trophies for the winning categories on a 'cascading down' basis whereby any man or lady placed first second or third is not entitled to the age group prize as well. Please do check the results as you may well win an age category even if you weren't one of the first 3 runners.
Post- Run massage
Post-run massage is kindly offered by Luke Bowman and his team at Reform Physiotherapy. If you would like a massage each taster massage will last approx. 10 minutes. We hope this will minimise queuing time. Luke has offered us his time and services for free but we would like to ask for a small voluntary donation towards the school in return for your treatments on the day.
Reflexology
Reflexology is being offered by Holly Smith. If you would like a reflexology treatment each taster will last approx. 15 mins. Holly has offered us her time and services for free but we would like to ask for a small voluntary donation towards the school in return for your treatments on the day.
Refreshments
There will be a BBQ, cafe, ice cream vendor and licenced bar available at the event site, selling bacon rolls, burgers and hot dogs & vegetarian options.
A final word
We have organised Run Orwell with an aim of raising funds for Friends of Petersfield School. All of our marshals and helpers are volunteers who have given up their time to help us put on this event. Along with our many sponsors, we thank all of you as well as them for your support. If you have the spare breath please do give the marshals a wave and a thank you as you pass, I know they really do appreciate it.
We look forward to seeing you all on Sunday.
